Ingredients

For the Spicy Shrimp:

1 lb large shrimp, peeled and deveined

2 tablespoons olive oil

2 teaspoons chili powder

1 teaspoon smoked paprika

1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust to your spice preference)

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

1/2 teaspoon onion powder

Salt and pepper to taste

1 tablespoon fresh lime juice

For the Avocado Crema:

1 ripe avocado

1/2 cup Greek yogurt or sour cream

1-2 tablespoons lime juice (adjust to taste)

Salt to taste

1 small garlic clove, minced

Fresh cilantro, for garnish (optional)

For the Tacos:

8 small corn or flour tortillas

1 cup shredded cabbage (choose between green or red)

1 cup diced tomatoes or pico de gallo

1/2 cup crumbled feta or cotija cheese

Lime wedges for serving

Instructions

Prepare the Shrimp: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the olive oil, chili powder, smoked paprika, cayenne pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Add the peeled and deveined shrimp to the bowl and toss until each shrimp is evenly coated with the spice mixture. Drizzle the lime juice over the shrimp, cover the bowl, and set it aside to marinate for about 15 minutes for the flavors to meld.

Make the Avocado Crema: While the shrimp is marinating, cut the avocado in half, remove the pit, and scoop the flesh into a blender or food processor. Add the Greek yogurt (or sour cream), lime juice, minced garlic, and a pinch of salt. Blend the mixture until it becomes smooth and creamy, tasting along the way to adjust the lime juice and salt levels to your liking. Set aside the avocado crema.

Cook the Shrimp: Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the marinated shrimp to the skillet in a single layer. Cook the shrimp for about 2-3 minutes on each side, or until they turn pink and opaque. Be cautious not to overcook the shrimp to maintain their tenderness.

Warm the Tortillas: In a separate dry skillet or over an open flame, warm the tortillas for approximately 30 seconds on each side, until they are soft and pliable. This will enhance their flavor and texture.

Assemble the Tacos: Place a warm tortilla on a serving plate. Layer in a generous amount of shredded cabbage as the base, followed by a portion of the spicy shrimp. Add a dollop of the creamy avocado mixture on top, followed by diced tomatoes or pico de gallo. Finish each taco with a sprinkle of crumbled feta or cotija cheese for an extra burst of flavor.

Garnish and Serve: Optionally, garnish the tacos with fresh cilantro, adding a pop of color and freshness. Serve with lime wedges on the side to squeeze over the tacos for an added citrusy zing.
