Ingredients

1 fully cooked bone-in ham (6-8 pounds)

1 cup packed brown sugar

1/2 cup honey

1/2 cup Dijon mustard

1/4 cup apple cider vinegar

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1 teaspoon ground ginger

1/2 teaspoon ground cloves

1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

1/4 cup water

Fresh herbs for garnish (such as rosemary or thyme, optional)

Instructions

Prepare the Ham: If your ham has a thick layer of fat, carefully score the surface in a diamond pattern. This technique helps the delicious glaze infuse into the meat. Place the ham in the slow cooker with the cut-side facing down.

Make the Glaze: In a medium mixing bowl, combine the brown sugar, honey, Dijon mustard, apple cider vinegar, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, and black pepper. Whisk the mixture until it becomes smooth and well blended.

Coat the Ham: Pour the brown sugar glaze generously over the top and sides of the ham, ensuring it is evenly coated. For any areas that are not well covered, use a brush or the back of a spoon to spread the glaze thoroughly.

Add Water: Pour the water into the bottom of the slow cooker. This will create steam during cooking, ensuring the ham remains juicy and tender.

Cook: Cover the slow cooker with its lid. Set your slow cooker to the low setting, cooking the ham for 6-8 hours, or use the high setting for 3-4 hours, depending on your schedule. The ham is done once it's heated through and can be easily pulled apart with a fork.

Baste for Flavor: Every two hours or so during cooking, lift the lid and use a spoon to baste the ham with the juices accumulated at the bottom of the slow cooker. This step is essential for maximizing flavor and moisture.

Serve: When the cooking time is complete, carefully remove the ham from the slow cooker and allow it to rest for approximately 15 minutes. Slice the ham and serve it warm, drizzling it with the leftover glaze from the cooker. For an added touch, garnish with fresh herbs if desired.

Store Leftovers: Keep any leftover ham in an airtight container stored in the refrigerator, where it will stay fresh for up to 5 days.
