Ingredients

2 cups frozen edamame in pods

2 tablespoons sesame oil

4 cloves garlic, minced

1 tablespoon soy sauce

2 teaspoons honey or maple syrup

1 tablespoon rice vinegar

1 tablespoon sesame seeds (white or black)

¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for added heat)

Salt, to taste

Fresh cilantro or chopped green onions, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Prepare the Edamame: Begin by bringing a large pot of water to a rolling boil. Carefully add the frozen edamame pods and let them cook for about 4-5 minutes, or until tender. Once cooked, drain the edamame and immediately transfer them to a bowl of ice water to halt the cooking process. Once fully cooled, drain again and set aside to rest.

Make the Sauce: In a small mixing bowl, combine the sesame oil, minced garlic, soy sauce, honey (or maple syrup), rice vinegar, and sesame seeds. If you enjoy a little heat, add the red pepper flakes as well. Whisk the mixture together until well combined; this flavorful sauce will elevate your edamame.

Sauté the Edamame: Heat a large, non-stick skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the drained edamame pods to the skillet and sauté for 2-3 minutes. This step will create a delightful crunch and warm the pods through.

Add the Flavor: Carefully pour the prepared sauce over the sautéed edamame. Stir gently but thoroughly to ensure that all the pods are evenly coated. Continue cooking for an additional 2-3 minutes, or until the sauce thickens slightly and becomes caramelized on the edamame.

Season and Serve: Taste the edamame and add salt according to your preference. Once satisfied, remove the skillet from heat and transfer the flavorful edamame to a serving bowl. Optionally, garnish with fresh cilantro or thinly sliced green onions for a refreshing touch. This dish can be enjoyed warm or at room temperature.
