Ingredients

1 lb (450g) ground beef or ground turkey

1/2 cup breadcrumbs (preferably whole wheat)

1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1/4 cup fresh parsley, finely chopped

4 cloves garlic, minced

1 large egg

1 tablespoon fresh thyme, chopped (or 1 teaspoon dried thyme)

1 teaspoon dried oregano

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1/2 cup marinara sauce (plus extra for serving, optional)

Olive oil spray

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Begin by preheating your oven to 400°F (200°C). To facilitate an easy cleanup, line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Combine Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, add the ground meat, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, finely chopped parsley, minced garlic, egg, fresh thyme (or dried), oregano, salt, and black pepper. Using your hands or a spatula, gently mix until all ingredients are just combined. Take care to avoid overmixing, which can make the meatballs tough.

Shape the Meatballs: With moistened hands to prevent sticking, scoop out portions of the meat mixture and shape them into 1.5-inch balls. Place the meatballs evenly spaced on the prepared baking sheet.

Add Olive Oil: Lightly spray or drizzle the formed meatballs with olive oil. This step will help them achieve a beautiful golden brown color while baking.

Bake the Meatballs: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the meatballs are fully cooked and beautifully golden. You can check for doneness by ensuring they reach an internal temperature of 160°F (70°C).

Serve: Once baked, remove the meatballs from the oven and allow them to rest for 5 minutes. Serve them warm, generously drizzled with additional marinara sauce, or over a comforting bed of spaghetti. For an extra touch, garnish with freshly chopped parsley or basil.

Enjoy: Pair your cozy baked meatballs with a refreshing side salad or some rustic crusty bread to complete the meal experience!
