Ingredients

For the Brownie Base:

1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter

2 cups granulated sugar

4 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup all-purpose flour

1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

For the Cookie Topping:

1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened

3/4 cup brown sugar, packed

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1 large egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 cup semisweet chocolate chips

Instructions

Prepare the Brownie Base:

    - Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking pan, then line it with parchment paper, allowing some overhang on the sides for easier removal later.

      - In a medium saucepan over low heat, melt 1 cup of butter. Once fully melted, remove from heat and stir in 2 cups of granulated sugar until well combined. Allow the mixture to cool slightly.

        - Add the 4 eggs to the mixture, one at a time, mixing thoroughly after each addition to ensure an even blend. Stir in 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract.

          - In a separate bowl, whisk together 1 cup of flour, 1 cup of cocoa powder, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1/2 teaspoon baking powder. Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined; take care not to overmix.

            - Pour the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan, spreading it evenly. Bake in the preheated oven for about 20-25 minutes. The brownies are done when a toothpick inserted into the center comes out mostly clean, with just a few fudgy crumbs. Allow the brownies to cool in the pan.

              Prepare the Cookie Topping:

                - In a large mixing bowl, combine 1/2 cup of softened butter, 3/4 cup of brown sugar, and 1/4 cup of granulated sugar. Beat together until the mixture becomes light and fluffy.

                  - Mix in the egg and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract until fully incorporated.

                    - In another mixing bowl, combine 1 1/4 cups of flour, 1/2 teaspoon baking soda, and 1/2 teaspoon salt. Gradually add this dry mixture into the butter-sugar mixture, stirring until just combined. Gently fold in 1 cup of semisweet chocolate chips.

                      Assemble and Bake:

                        - Once the brownie base has cooled slightly, take spoonfuls of the cookie dough and dollop it evenly over the brownie layer. Use an offset spatula or the back of a spoon to carefully spread the cookie dough into a uniform layer over the brownies.

                          - Place the assembled dessert back in the oven and bake for another 25-30 minutes, or until the cookie topping is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the cookie layer comes out clean.

                            - Once baked, remove the pan from the oven and let it cool completely on a wire rack. When cooled, use the parchment paper overhang to lift the brownies out of the pan and cut into squares.

                              Enjoy!

                                - These decadent brownies can be served warm or at room temperature. For an even more indulgent treat, pair with a scoop of vanilla ice cream!
