Ingredients

  • 1.0 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1.0 cup ricotta cheese
  • 0.5 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 0.5 cup cream cheese
  • 2.0 cloves garlic
  • 1.0 tablespoon fresh parsley
  • 1.0 tablespoon fresh chives
  • 1.0 tablespoon fresh thyme leaves
  • 1.0 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 0.0 to taste salt
  • 0.0 to taste pepper
  • 2.0 sheets puff pastry
  • 1.0 egg beaten egg

Instructions

  • Preheat the Oven: Set your oven to preheat at 400°F (200°C).
  • Prepare the Cheese Mixture: In a large bowl, combine the sharp cheddar, ricotta, Parmesan, and cream cheese. Stir in the minced garlic, parsley, chives, thyme, oregano, salt, and pepper. Mix until all the ingredients are well incorporated and the filling is creamy.
  • Roll Out Puff Pastry: On a lightly floured surface, roll out the puff pastry sheets to about 0.125 inch thickness. Cut each sheet into 3x3 inch squares.
  • Fill the Pastry: Place a heaping tablespoon of the cheesy herb mixture in the center of each puff pastry square. Be careful not to overfill, as the filling should fit comfortably within the pastry.
  • Seal the Boxes: Fold each corner of the pastry square to the center, creating a small box shape. Pinch the edges together to seal. Optionally, use a fork to crimp the edges for added security.
  • Brush with Egg Wash: Place the sealed boxes on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Brush the tops with beaten egg to achieve a golden brown finish.
  • Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 15 to 20 minutes, or until the boxes are puffed up and golden brown.
  • Cool and Serve: Allow the cheesy herb loaded boxes to cool slightly before transferring them to a serving platter. Serve warm as a delightful appetizer or snack.
