Ingredients

1 pound ground beef or ground turkey

1 can (15 oz) chili beans in mild chili sauce

1 can (10 oz) diced tomatoes with green chilies

1 packet (1.25 oz) taco seasoning

8 small corn or flour tortillas

1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (or a blended cheese)

1 cup shredded lettuce

1 medium tomato, diced

½ cup sour cream (optional)

Sliced jalapeños (optional, for garnish)

Fresh cilantro leaves (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

Cook the Protein:

In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef or turkey. Use a wooden spoon to break the meat apart as it cooks, stirring occasionally until it is fully browned and no longer pink. If there's excess fat, drain it off carefully.

      Incorporate Additional Ingredients:

To the skillet with your cooked protein, add the can of chili beans (including the sauce), diced tomatoes (with their juices), and the taco seasoning. Stir everything together until well combined. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer.

          Simmer for Flavor:

Let the chili mixture simmer on low heat for about 10 minutes. This will allow the flavors to meld beautifully. Stir occasionally to prevent anything from sticking to the bottom of the skillet.

              Warm the Tortillas:

While the chili concoction simmers, warm the tortillas in a separate skillet over low heat for about 30 seconds on each side till they become warm and pliable. Alternatively, you could wrap them in aluminum foil and place them in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 5-7 minutes.

                  Assemble the Tacos:

Once your chili mixture is ready, take one warm tortilla and spoon a generous portion of the chili mix into the center. Top it with a handful of shredded cheese, allowing it to melt slightly from the heat of the chili.

                      Add Toppings:

Garnish each taco with shredded lettuce and diced tomatoes. For an added rich flavor, finish with a dollop of sour cream and top with sliced jalapeños and a sprinkle of fresh cilantro if desired.

                          Serve with Style:

Arrange your tacos on a vibrant platter and serve them immediately. They pair wonderfully with sides such as crispy tortilla chips or a serving of Spanish rice!
